Whether you join us for waterfowl and turkey hunts in Wisconsin or ice fishing on Michigan’s Lake Gogebic, our goal is to deliver a memorable, safe, and rewarding outdoor experience.

Royal Rock Outfitters is proudly family-run by Boyd and Breana Sutfin, along with their sons Jace and Will. We welcome hunters and anglers of all skill levels, including families and veterans, and can accommodate guests with disabilities whenever conditions allow.

At Royal Rock Outfitters, we believe an outdoor trip should be more than just a hunt or a day on the water. It is an opportunity to disconnect, reconnect with nature, and create lasting memories with family and friends.

Meet Our Guides

Boyd - Owner & Lead Guide

My name is Boyd Sutfin, and my love for the outdoors began as a child when my dad would take me deer and duck hunting. If you were ever looking for me back then, I was likely holding a gun or fishing rod in a remote spot, always pushing myself to become a better outdoorsman.

It wasn’t long before I began to feel less fulfilled hunting for myself. During a goose hunt with friends, someone asked, “Why don’t you do this for a living? You’re good at it.” After some thought, that question stuck with me, and before long, I began my career as a waterfowl guide.

After 17 years of running a waterfowl guide business, another passion reignited—fishing. Growing up, I joined my dad and uncles on countless fishing trips, and during one of those outings, I discovered Lake Gogebic. Chasing jumbo perch there sparked a fire that led me to spend four years guiding for a local ice fishing service. One day, I was asked if I wanted to take it over, and it was the perfect opportunity to expand what I was already doing.

Today, I am a multi-species guide offering waterfowl hunts near the Horicon Marsh and surrounding areas of Wisconsin, turkey hunts in central Wisconsin, and ice fishing trips for jumbo perch on Lake Gogebic in Bergland, Michigan.

Jacob - Hunting & Fishing Guide

Jacob’s introduction to guiding and his passion for the outdoors began through his love for dogs. He owns and operates Tails for Life, a company that trains service dogs. Alongside his wife, Amanda, Jacob has trained service dogs for more than 14 years and is board certified.

Roughly seven years ago, Jacob developed another passion—running hunt tests and competing with some of the best Labradors in the country. That passion led him to try a guided waterfowl hunt with Boyd, and from there, his interests evolved into a love for working dogs in live hunting situations.

Jacob quickly developed the skills to become a waterfowl guide, where he continues to combine his love for guiding and dog training. His clients get to experience high-end British Labradors working in the field, adding an incredible dimension to each Royal Rock hunt.

Clay - Hunting & Fishing Guide

Clay was born and raised outside of Waupun, Wisconsin, where he spent most of his childhood outdoors with a gun or fishing pole in hand, exploring his family’s property. Whether in the marsh, woods, or river, Clay was always learning about wildlife.

As he got older, goose and deer hunting deepened his love for the outdoors. His father made sure he experienced it all—from hunting wood ducks in the creek behind their home to traveling to North Dakota for waterfowl migrations. Living near the Horicon Marsh gave him endless opportunities to explore and study nature.

By high school, once fall arrived, Clay could be found in a deer stand or scouting for waterfowl. When winter came, his focus turned to fishing—entering local tournaments with family and friends, traveling the Midwest for trophy fish, or heading out after work to chase crappie.

One day, Clay crossed paths with Boyd at work, and it wasn’t long before he joined Royal Rock as a part-time guide. His favorite part of guiding is meeting clients and providing high-quality, memorable trips across both hunting and fishing adventures.

Blake - Hunting & Fishing Guide

Blake grew up deer hunting in the rolling hills of Missouri on his family’s farm. His curiosity about waterfowl hunting soon turned into a lifelong passion.

Today, Blake guides nine months out of the year, following the migration from Canada to Texas and anywhere in between. As a guide, he is committed to going above and beyond for his clients, putting in the time and effort needed to deliver the best hunting experience possible.

Each season, Blake looks forward to creating new friendships and reconnecting with returning clients who share the same love for the outdoors.

Jon - Hunting & Fishing Guide

Jon’s love for hunting began when his grandfather first took him deer hunting around the age of 12. His introduction to waterfowl came through his friend Boyd many years ago. After that first hunt, he was instantly hooked and has been working with Boyd since the founding of Royal Rock Outfitters.

Jon’s passion for waterfowl runs deep. So much so that he even hunted the morning of his wedding with his groomsmen and close friends. He takes pride in teaching others to appreciate the outdoors, especially children, and enjoys hunting with older generations whose stories and determination inspire him.

When he isn’t guiding hunts, Jon enjoys ice fishing, drawn to both the challenge of finding fish and the peacefulness it brings. He has made multiple trips to Lake Gogebic and occasionally helps guide there as well.

Rob - Hunting & Fishing Guide

Rob McGahan was raised in a family of traditional outdoorsmen, developing impressive hunting and fishing skills from a young age. Born and raised in Hesperia, he has lived in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for more than 22 years.

With over 40 years of experience in the outdoors, Rob takes pride in his expansive knowledge and the opportunities he has had to share it with others. His love for nature extends beyond hunting and fishing to include hiking, camping, beachcombing, waterfall chasing, rockhounding, and foraging.

Rob is known for his strong work ethic and passion for helping others improve their skills. His goal is to help clients make the same kinds of memories that he treasures from his own time outdoors.

Will - Hunting & Fishing Guide

Will was born and raised in Horicon, Wisconsin, and his love for the outdoors began early. By the age of five, he was captivated by the sight of waterfowl flying over his home.

At nine years old, Will was introduced to Royal Rock Outfitters through Boyd’s wife, Breana, who taught horseback riding lessons. Over time, Will drifted from riding lessons toward spending more time learning from Boyd. One day, Boyd handed Will a goose call and showed him how to use it—an experience that changed everything.

Will began participating in youth hunts with Boyd, which quickly grew into regular hunting experiences. His dedication and work ethic did not go unnoticed, and Boyd eventually began training him to guide.

Now the youngest guide at Royal Rock, Will has put in countless hours to master his craft. He also assists with ice fishing trips during the winter months. His favorite part of guiding is taking group photos at the end of the hunt and seeing the smiles that reflect a job well done.
